I literally have tens of thousands of dollars in top-shelf hardware, looking to repurpose some before selling on eBay to build a NAS system, possibly a dedicated firewall device as well. o_O

Q1) What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**

A1) This will be a dedicated NAS system for my home network. As such, I'm looking to have it:

- Host ##TB's of 720, 1080 & up resolution Movies and TV Shows I'm about to begin ripping from a MASSIVE DVD & Blueray collection I have.

- My kids are big on Minecraft. I understand it's possible to host your own "worlds" (or whatever they call the maps you can build) on your own "server". I think it would be pretty neat to offer them (& their friends - if can be done 'safely/securely') their own partition on one of my NAS HDD's.

- I also have accounts with a couple diff VPN companies... I understand it's possible (?) to sync said VPN's with a NAS, this might be a more relative topic on the next point/purpose...

- I'd like to be able to remotely link to this NAS for when I travel overseas and want to stream at my temp location from my house/this NAS.

* A2) Here's where I make matters more complicated than most others would... I've been an advocate for Bitcoin and crypto-currencies in general since 2013. I invested in a small mining outfit back in 2014 (strictly Bitcoin/ASIC's). One of my buddies is the President of a large-scale mining operation (foreign and domestic) and he convinced me to dabble in the GPU mining-space. I made my first hardware purchase in Q4, 2017 and launched a small-scale GPU-Farm in my house since then. I had the rigs mining up until Q3 of 2018 (not cost-efficient to keep on, especially living in SoFlo) and since then, the hardware's been collecting dust (& pissing off my family members since they lost access to 3X rooms in the house - I won't let anyone go near my gear). One of my New Years Resolutions for 2019 was to clear out the house of all my mining equipment so that's all about to go up on eBay. So "budget" is relative to whatever I "MUST" spend if I can't repurpose any of the parts I already have on hand for this build... (Anyone having something I "need" and is looking to barter for one of the items I'll list later on in here, LMK).

A4) Well I had a half-assed idea approximately 1 year ago that it might be wise to build a bunch of 'gaming rigs' to sell on eBay with my intended repurposed mining hardware so I went on a shopping spree for like 6 months. That said; I've got a plethora of various other components that aren't even unboxed yet. 90% of the items I've purchased for this additional project were items that were marked down via MIR (mail-in-rebates) & what-not...
AFAIK, there are only 3X items I absolutely do not have which I 'MUST' find. Those would be - 1) Motherboard which accepts "ECC RAM". 2) CPU for said MOBO. 3) Said "ECC RAM".\*

A5) I'm located in Southwest Florida. No Microcenter's here. Best Buy is pretty much my only option although I am a member of Newegg, Amazon & Costco if that makes any difference?

A6) In an attempt to better clean up this Q&A, I'm going to list the items I have on-hand at the end of this questionnaire in-case passers-by feel like this might be a TLDR.* (Scroll to the bottom & you'll see what I mean).

A7) I don't think that's necessary for my intended purpose although - I'm not against it if that helps & FWIW, I'm pretty skilled @ this task already (it's not rocket science).

Q8) Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**

A8) As stated in A4; ECC RAM is non-negotiable... RAID seems like a logical application here as well.

- This will predominantly be receiving commands from MacOS computers. I don't think that matters really but figured it couldn't hurt to let you guys know.\*

- I'd also be quite fond of implementing "PFSENSE" (or something of that caliber) applied to this system so I could give my Netgear Nighthawks less stress in that arena, plus my limited understanding of PFSENSE is that it's ability to act as a firewall runs circles around anything that comes with consumer-grade Wi-Fi routers (like my Nighthawks). Just the same, I'm open to building a second rig just for the firewall.\*

- Another desirable feature would be that it draws as little electricity from the wall as possible. (I'm EXTREMELY skilled in this arena. I have "Kill-A-Watts" to test/gauge on, as well as an intimate understanding of the differences between Silver, Gold, Platinum and Titanium rated PSU's. As well as having already measured each of the PSU's I have on-hand and taken note of the 'target TDP draw' ("Peak Power Efficiency Draw") each one offers when primed with X amount of GPU's when I used them for their original purpose.\*

- Last, but not least, sound (as in noise created from the rig). I'd like to prop this device up on my entertainment center in the living room. I've (almost) all of the top-shelf consumer grade products one could dream of regarding fans and other thermal-related artifacts.

- Almost forgot; this will be hosting to devices on the KODI platform (unless you guys have better alternative suggestions?)

A9) Definitely! Desired theme would be WHITE. If that doesn't work for whatever reason, black or gray would suffice. Regarding "Case Size". Nah, that's not too important although I don't foresee a mini-ITX build making sense if I'm going to be cramming double digit amounts of TB in the system, Internal HDD's sounds better than a bunch of externals plugged in all the USB ports.

Naturally, I have GPU's. Specifically;

At least 1X of every. Single. NVIDIA GTX 1070 TI (Yes, I have every variation of the 1070 ti made by MSI, EVGA and Zotac. The only brand I don't have is the Gigabyte line. My partners have terrible experience with those so I didn't even bother. I'm clearly not going to be needing a GPU for this build but again, I'm cool with discussing the idea of a barter if anyone reading this is in the market for one.

I also have some GTX 1080 TI's but those are already spoken for, sorry.

It's my understanding that select CPU's I have on this list are ECC Friendly and AFAIK, only 1 of my MOBO's claims to be ECC Friendly (The ASROCK AB350M PRO4), but for the life of me, I can't find any corresponding forums that confirm this and/or direct me to a listing where I can buy compatible RAM. Just the same, if I go w/ the ASROCK MOBO, that means I'd be using one of the Ryzens. Those are DEF. power hungry little buggers. Not a deal-breaker, just hoping to find something a little more conservative in terms of TDP.


In closing, I don't really need someone to hold my hand with the build part as much as figuring out which motherboard, CPU and RAM to get. Then I'm DEFINITELY going to need some guidance on what OS is best for my desired purpose. If building 2X Rigs makes sense, I'm totally open to that as well...

Please spare me the insults as I insulted myself throughout this entire venture. Part of why I did this was because when I was a kid, I used to fantasize about building a 'DREAM PC' but could never afford such. To compensate for this deficiency, I would actually print out the latest and greatest hardware components on a word document, print the lists up & tape to wall (for motivation). I was C++ certified at the age of 14 and built my first PC when I was 7. At the age of 15 I abandoned all hope in the sector and moved on to other aspirations. This entire ordeal was largely based off me finally fulfilling a childhood fantasy. On that note = mission accomplished. Now if I'm actually able to fulfill my desires on this post, I'm definitely going to feel less shitty about blowing so much money on all this stuff over the last couple years.

EDIT/UPDATE (5 hours after OP) - My inbox is being inundated with various people asking for prices and other reasonable questions about my hardware being up for sale. Not to be redundant but rather to expound on my previous remarks about 'being interested in a bartetrade' with any of you here...

I did say I was going to sell my gear on eBay in the near future, I also said I wanted to trade/barter for anything relative to helping me accomplish my OP's mission(s). I'm not desperate for the $$$ but I'm also not one of those people that likes to rip other people off. That said; I value my time and money invested in this hardware and I'm only willing to unload it all once I've established I have ZERO need for any of it here in my home first. Hence my writing this lengthy thread in an attempt to repurpose at least a grand or two I've already spent.

One of the most commonly asked questions I anticipate receiving from interested bodies is going to be "How hard were you on your hardware?" Contrary to what anyone else would have probably done in my scenario which is say they were light on it whether they were or weren't, I documented my handling of the hardware, and have no problem sharing such documentation with verified, interested buyers (WHEN THE TIME COMES) to offer you guys peace of mind.

I have photo's and video's of the venture from A-Z. I am also obliged to provide (redacted) electricity bill statements where you can correlate my photo's (power draw on each rig), and also accurately deduct the excess power my house consumed with our other household appliances. Even taking into consideration how much (more) I spent in electricity from keeping my house at a constant, cool 70-72F year-round (via my Nest thermostat). Even without the rigs, I keep my AC @ 70 when I'm home and for the last 1.5-2 years, I just so happened to spend 85% of my time here at my house. When I would travel, I'd keep it at 72 for my wife & kids.
Additionally; I had each GPU 'custom' oveunderclocke'd (MSI Afterburner for all GPU's but the EVGA's).*
I doubt everyone reading this is aware so this is for those that don't.... EVGA had the brilliant idea of implementing what they call "ICX technology" in their latest NVIDIA GTX GPU's. The short(est) explanation of this "feature" goes as follows:

EVGA GPU's w/ "ICX 9 & above" have EXTRA HEAT/THERMAL SENSORS. Unlike every other GTX 1070 ti on the market, the one's with this feature actually have each of 2/2 on-board fans connected to individual thermal sensors. Which means - if you were to use the MSI Afterburner program on one of these EVGA's and create a custom fan curve for it, you'd only be able to get 1/2 of the fans to function the way intended. The other fan simply would not engage as the MSI Afterburner software wasn't designed/coded to recognize/ communicate with an added sensor (let alone sensor'S). This, in-turn, would likely result in whoever's using it the unintended way having a GPU defect on them within the first few months I'd imagine... Perhaps if they had the TDP power settings dumbed down as much as I did (60-63%), they might get a year or two out of it since it wouldn't run as near as hot, but I doubt any longer than that since cutting off 50% of the cooling system on one of these can't be ignored too long, surely capacitors would start to blow and who knows what else...
(Warning = RANT) Another interesting side-note about the EVGA's and their "Precision-X" OveUnderclocking software is that it's designed to only recognize 4X GPU's on a single system. For miners, that's just not cool. My favorite builds had 8X and for the motherboards that weren't capable of maintaining stable sessions on 8, I set up with 6X. Only my EVGA Rigs had 3 or 4X GPU's dedicated to a single motherboard. Furthermore, and as stated in an earlier paragraph, (& this is just my opinion) = EVGA SOFTWARE SUCKS! Precision X wasn't friendly with every motherboard/CPU I threw at it and their extension software for the CLC Close-Loop-Cooling/ CPU water-coolers simply didn't work on anything, even integrating into their own Precision-X software. The amount of time it took me to finally find compatible matches with that stuff was beyond maddening. (END RANT).
Which leads me to my other comments on the matter. That's what I had every single 1070 ti set at for TDP = 60-63%. Dropping the power load that much allowed me to bring down (on average) each 1070 ti to a constant 110-115W (mind you, this is only possible w/ "Titanium" rated PSU's, Platinum comes pretty damn close to the Titanium though) while mining Ethereum and was still able to maintain a bottom of 30 MH/s and a ceiling of 32 MH/s. Increasing the TDP to 80, 90, 100% or more only increased my hashrates (yields) negligibly, like 35-36 MH/s TOPS, which also meant each one was not only pulling 160-180W+ (Vs. the aforementioned 115'ish range), it also meant my rigs were creating a significantly greater amount of heat! Fortunately for the GPU's and my own personal habits, I live in South Florida where it's hot as balls typically, last winter was nothing like this one. Increasing my yields by 10-15% didn't justify increasing the heat production in my house by >30%, nor the added electricity costs from subjecting my AC handlers to that much of an extra work-load. For anyone reading this that doesn't know/understand what I'm talking about - after spending no less than 2-3 hours with each. and. every. one. I didn't play with the settings on just one and universally apply the settings to the rest. I found the 'prime' settings and documented them with a label-maker and notepad. Here's the math in a more transparent manner:

*** I NEVER LET MY GPU's BREACH 61C, EVER. Only my 8X GPU rigs saw 60-61 & it was the ones I had in the center of the build (naturally). I have REALLY high power fans (used on BTC ASIC MINERS) that were sucking air from those GPU's which was the only way I was able to obtain such stellar results while mining with them. **\*
Mining at "acceptable" heat temps (not acceptable to me, but most of the internet would disagree = 70C) and overclocking accordingly brings in X amount of yields per unit. =
'Tweaking' (underclocking) the GPU's to my parameters reduced my yield per unit from -10-15%, but it SAVED me well over 30-35% in direct electricity consumption, and an unknown amount of passive electricity consumption via creating approximately 20%+ less heat for my AC handler to combat.

I say all this extra stuff not just for anyone interested in mining with their GPU's, but really to answer (in-depth) the apparent questions you people are asking me in PM's. Something else that should help justify my claims of being so conservative should be the fact I only have/used "Platinum and Titanium" rated PSU's. Heat production, power efficiency and longevity of the hardware were ALWAYS my top priority.* . I truly thought Crypto would continue to gain and/or recover and bounce back faster than it did. If this project had maintained positive income for 12 months+, I'd have expanded one of our sites to also cater to GPU mining on a gnarly scale.

Once I have my NAS (& possibly 2nd rig for the firewall) successfully built, I'll be willing/able to entertain selling you guys some/all of the remaining hardware prior to launching on eBay. If there's something you're specifically looking for that I listed having, feel free to PM me with that/those specific item(s). Don't count on an immediate response but what you can count on is me honoring my word in offering whoever asks first right of refusal when the time comes for me to sell this stuff. Fortunately for me, PM's are time-stamped so that's how I'll gauge everyone's place in line. I hope this extra edit answers most of the questions you guys wanted to have answered and if not, sorry I guess. I'll do my best to bring light to anything I've missed out on after I realize whatever that error was/is. 1. Prepare your mining rig
Download required programs:

Using this software is risky, but you can minimize the risk by planning. Ideally you want a sanitized GPU mining rig.
This means:
  • No private key!!!
  • No saved passwords!!!
  • No files you are not comfortable with losing!!!
Use this as a basic security audit if you have an existing GPU mining rig.
2. Download and Install Ubuntu
You can Google this.
I believe in you, you will figure it out. :-D
But get an .iso and use Rufus to make a bootable USB.
3. Install Nvidia Drivers
Don't download them from the Nvidia website. Use repositories instead. This guide worked for me: http://www.linuxandubuntu.com/home/how-to-install-latest-nvidia-drivers-in-linux
Make sure you are connected to wifi at this stage. The error message will not clue you into the fact that your internet is not working.
4. Run the pizzaminer software
Details are in the README.TXT. But essentially all you need to do is run the program. Make sure in properties it has permissions to exectute. Also run each miner in their own terminal instance.

7. Optimization
v0.0.3 CPU optimization
Before the CPU was bottle necking the GPU utilization in certain cases. v0.0.3 fixes this and it's stable for me. With multiple cards on a Celeron G39XX you can expect a 50%+ boost in overall hash rate.
Overclocking (EXPERIMENTAL!!!)
This command should allow basic overclocking, monitor free initialization. Honestly haven't had much success in the overclocking department. Let me know if you do!

My Bitcoin Mining Project and MRIP

EDIT: Everyone, I totally f'd up on GPU's that I would have by end of June. I just wrote a quick VBS script that shows I'll only have 22 (15+7) by end of June. Not too shabby, but definitely not 48. Just wanted to post an update. Feel free to use the script!
So I've posted here a few times in the past. Now I'll detail what I'm doing a little further and try to help others.
Right now I'm working with 5x 7950's, 3x 7850's, a 6750, and 3x GTX 580's (my gaming rig). My hash rate is about 4,500 MH/s. I started this project using the DRIP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dividend_reinvestment_plan) principles in mind. I call this MRIP (Mining Reinvestment Plan). The plan is to reinvest all bitcoins mined into more mining hardware. Today I just purchased two more 7950's that are due to arrive tomorrow. Note that these two cards were purchased with bitcoins that were mined. This should bring my hash rate up to about 5660 MH/s, which will let me purchase another card next monday. The plan is every time I have enough to buy another card, I withdraw the bitcoins and convert it into cash. At this rate I'm hoping to have about 48 additional 7950 cards by the end of June or about 33,000 MH/s (33GH/s).
To those I haven't gotten back with about hardware that I'm ordering, I do apologize. I'm using ported 7950's. I STRESS ported cards (ported on top, other on bottom) because they throw the heat out of the chassis. When clustering 12 cases together (4x12=48 cards) it's not ideal to "just leave the side off and hope it's cool it enough". These cases will be slammed up against each other. Going to back to hardware, I still haven't decided on a locked feature set - meaning I don't know what I'm going to buy (mobo, ram, cpu, psu, etc). Ideally I want to keep the core system down to about $70/PCI-e slot, but I have to factor in space (hashing density too).
I say this because hardware pricing is always changing, but I want to lock the specs down eventually because it'll be easy to administer. Having 12 like systems will be easier to deploy than 12 totally different systems (all I have to do is image them). Being a net/sys admin I'll probably administer them with a PXE boot image (which I plan on making that publicly available along with the system specs). Anyways I apologize about that.
I run an IT consulting company on the side and thus I have A CRAP LOAD of old machines with a working PCI-e slot (or two or three). I'll be using these up and then will start building out a system.
Going back to mining, I'm not sure what ASIC's have in store for us. The difficulty could rise so much that by end of June I only have 4 more GPUs instead of 48. My hope is that the difficulty will not go up that high as ASIC's are still very hard to come by and really don't make a good investment case right now (or then). Looking at the difficulty graphs, TH/s seem to be leveling off in the near future - but only time will tell! Let me know if this helps! FYI I have put $0 into this so far, as I've been using old hand-me-down GPU's...

Hi everyone,
I am the official North American distributor of Break-out boards for the IBM 2880W Bladecenter H PSU's, which are 80+ platinum rated (94%+ efficient) Edit: UN-VERIFIED AT THIS POINT and have provision for 22x PCI-E cables. Unlike other server boards, these don't rely on screw-down terminals and bare wires which can get loose and spark causing fire hazards, and limit the exposure of live contacts to surfaces above and below the PSU. Instead these use a double-sided PCI 6 pin cable, which only cost about $0.10 more than the standard PCI-6 to bare wire versions. Also, unlike the DPS-2000BB -which is the next largest server PSU available for miners- these have fans already built-in, so don't need extra work to set up up and deploy.
The PSU's themselves are available on e-bay and elsewhere (I sell them as well), and the boards will be priced at US $70 $65 each (better pricing for bulk purchase, volume structure will be the same as J4bberwock's). Each PSU can handle 2x Antminer S7's, 3x SP20's, 5 Antminer S5's, or 8 Antminer S3's. You won't find better value for power, and there are very few ATX-based PSU's that provide 80+ platinum efficiency (and none for under $200 for even 700-800 watts). Edit: UN-VERIFIED AT THIS POINT Lastly, unlike ATX-based PSU's, these can be run at (and I have found even over) their rated power, as they were designed that way for server use. They do, however, require 240V input. Also, running these over at over 90% load will give you slightly decreased efficiency, and could affect their reliability.
I have personally taken 3x SP20's to settings around 960 watts (at ports, not at wall) each for approximately 2 weeks, and the PSU drew 13.41 amps (@ 235 volts - 3150 watts @ wall). So at absolute full load (or possibly over), these will still hold over 90% efficiency. Very impressive, and I will be testing different fans to reduce sound for home mining (fans on these PSU's are slightly louder & higher pitched than SP20 fans). Sloopy informed me that he ran 11x Antminer S3's on a PSU for a while (over 3,300W DC!), but that is certainly not recommended, and will eventually cause the PSU to fail. It is simply a testament to how tough these PSU's truly are, and that spikes over their rated output shouldn't affect performance.

Building Whalesburg
We are getting questions from investors and bloggers who are not professional miners. They know in common words what it means, what hardware miners use but are not so familiar with numbers of this field. We regularly get questions how much profit Whalesburg will bring to our customers. So we decided to write a post which explains the basics of mining ROI.
This article is not for skilled miners; some details are not covered here!
What is typical ROI in mining, how Whalesburg will improve it?
Mining ROI hardly depends on the hardware you use (GPU or ASICs), cryptocurrency prices, network difficulty, hashrate and other variables, which changes over time. It means that real data may hardly differ from those provided in this article.
Let’s refer to a well-known website Cryptocompare.com on the page of Antminer S9 (https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/bitmain/antminer-s9-mine). This website is quite popular and has an API used by thousands, so the data seems to be trustworthy. It tells that the price of a single piece of S9 is $2,725, its power consumption equals 1,375W, return per year is $3560 (incl. electricity costs) and ROI equals 130%.
This way you will get $3560 — $2725 = $835 net income at the end of the first year if variables below will remain same. The second year will bring you $3560 more. Note calculations was made using price of 1 BTC = $10516, electricity price $0.12 per kW/h and network difficulty = 18,633,837 PH/s.
Now let’s take a look at whattomine.com website on SHA 256 algorithm: screenshot is in a Medium post
As you can see, there is an option to mine UNIT which more profitable than BTC by 31% (!!!). So switching some of the pool’s hashpowers to this coin and converting UNIT to BTC on the fly could increase miners profit. This is the main concept of Whalesburg smart mining pool.
There is another problem — low UNIT’s network hashrate which can prevent this coin being such a profitable one if we will switch all our powers to it.
We are developing an algorithm which will vary hash powers among new coins and split profits between all participants. So, if someone will mine COIN1 with 130% BPR (BTC Profit Rate) and other will mine Bitcoin with 100% BPR — each of them both will get 15% more profit than just mining BTC. A module which responds for payouts will convert them to BTC by intent and split rewards among participants with PPLNS method.

Will your partners who are mining hosting companies hold WBT or they will propose Whalesburg to their clients?
All partners will have a will to hold WBT tokens for their clients, and they agree to such terms. The fee of 0,45% is cheap; additionally, they get a monitoring tool built to fulfill their needs. It is a win-win deal. Clients of our partners are investors, not IT geeks. They don’t need to hold these tokens to see increased ROI in reports. We offer services to any size mining facilities. They will want to hold our tokens and use our software. Can you make some more concrete arguments in favor of Whalesburg regarding time-saving and increased ROI?
Time-saving:
Now miners need to set a bunch of tools like EthMiner, Autominer, Claymore, Afterburner, and others. We incorporate all this functionality in one. Miners need to analyze the profitability of dozens of coins, look for good pools, create and run a .bat or .sh file to stop/run miners. They need to understand this all! Miners need to monitor the state of their hardware manually, and if something happened (drops of hash rate), they need to become a hardware doctors and to heal their farms. Let me tell you a story. Miner has a mining rig built with 8 GPU cards. He mines ETH with X MH/s. Suddenly he finds that hash rate become 0.6X MH/s — this is a 40% drop!!! But all the cards are working, responding at the same delay and have the same hash rate which is (0.6X)/8 MH/s. So Miner takes out GPUs one by one and restarts this rig until he founds one GPU card which causes a problem. He replaces this card with another one, and his rig’s hash rate returns to X MH/s. He still doesn’t know what is wrong with his GPU card. The Whalesburg monitoring tool can prevent failures and diagnose problems automatically and notify Miner. Even try to heal it disconnecting card programmatically.
Return rate:
A long time ago we experimented with my friends who own mining rigs and who were mining ETH. We’ve chosen most popular “smart mining pools” like Nicehash, Miner gate, suprnova.cc and solo mining mode with Claymore miner. The last mode was to mine with Whalesburg proof-of-concept solution — it was EthMiner + Autominer which connects to a pool of the most profitable coin among EtHash algorithm. So we connected five mining farms of the same hash rate to each of these modes and start to gather live statistics. A week was gone, and we calculated profits, rates, metrics: Lowest was solo mode mining with Claymore (obvious reasons — low hash rate, high difficulty). And still it brought to rig owner around 80% to average experiment income; Then go Nicehash and Minergate with 90% of average income, and both more-less were looking similar. Suprnova.cc was the best among all the previous and gave 115% of average experiment income. Whalesburg.com chart was hopping from one coin to another frequently at the start, then it stabilized and showed 125% of average income.
Why we generate more profits, strong part:
The first server-side auto-witching algorithm. The one in the world — all other smart pools leave this to a clients side. Transparent fees. Blockchain-based accounting shows we are not hiding a penny and using actual exchange rates. We have more Ethash coins already, at the start. We have other architecture that other mining pools, the proprietary software we coded our own from scratch. To be confident we can promise at least +15% income to whatever they use now.
Weaknesses:
Whalesburg is in the early stage. We have just released an MVP. Our pool’s hashrate on start will be low comparing to the biggest pools on the market. This is what we need to work out, but it will be easy.

Question about mining Ethereum.

TL,DR: I am mining on ethpool.org (Switched to Ethermine.org), what shows up there doesn’t show up in my wallet and I don’t know why. Is there something I am missing?
 
So I have just spent the weekend trying to successfully mine Eth. I am using the latest Claymore mining software (Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v7.4) , mining on ethpool.org, with the Mist wallet (0.8.7) geth (1.5.3). Having left the setup running for most of 3 days, what shows up on the ethpool.org stats page, never shows up in the Mist wallet and I don’t understand what is causing that disconnect. I do have some long running experience with mining Bitcoins with both GPUs and ASICs (Still running 2 cute USB ASICS just for fun). I am not trying to make money at this time, though I wanted to upgrade my graphics card anyway so I figured if I could mine some Eth while before PoS happens (maybe pay off the card) that’s cool too. My process is the following:
Starting geth from command line using geth.exe --cache=2048 --jitvm --maxpeers 100 –light to let it synch. Seems to work fine. I have previously tried using geth with –fast, to synch it seems to work fine that way as well.
Then I start Claymore with Start.bat containing the following.

Intel i5-2600k, Asus P8Z68-V Gen3, 1.5TB hdd space on 2 drives. 16GB RAM. XFX Radeon R7 360 2GB (Clock: 1050MHz, Mem: 500MHz – Hynix DDR5) Driver version: Crimson 16.11.3 If you care, I am getting 3.9-4.4 Mh/s with Claymore. IIRC I was getting 2.something with other miners.
 
Known problems: Low number of peers. I am not using the recommended drivers. 2GB on video card is near size limit. Power is .11$ kw/h here.

We have heard many concerns from the mining community regarding the news that Bitmain has already or may be developing an Asic-like Ethereum miner. While this is still a rumor and not yet confirmed, we will explore its implications on mining and specifically on mining PIRL. In short, we do not see any reason for alarm, and we believe this may actually be beneficial to the mining community.
First, the rumored hash rates per machine have been reported to only be in the 200 - 220 MHs range. This is not a big improvement from most rigs built by miners, and with the newer motherboards, miners can easily build a rig with comparable or better hash rates and at a better cost. When Asics were introduced for Bitcoin, they provided an enormous increase in performance versus GPU mining rigs. The rumored Ethereum miner would offer no such performance advantage, and although no costs have been published, the potential costs of these rigs will likely be significantly higher than a comparable rig built by a miner. Second, Ethash is a memory intensive algorithm and the rumored specifications for the machine indicates DDR3 memory - which is slower than your current mining rigs. The machines will have a lot of the DDR3 memory, but it is unlikely that this will give any real advantage over most miners’ rigs.
With the current lack of GPU inventory available for miners, the addition of the machines may allow miners to add to their overall hash rate while GPU’s are difficult to find. Additionally, the pre-made machines might be attractive to entry level miners or those who do not want to build or cannot build their own rigs. If these are readily available, they should help relieve some of the pressure on the inventory of available GPU’s that miners can purchase; and thus may help lower GPU pricing back to more normalized levels. Based on the reporting, besides being pre-built and ready to mine, these machines may offer some slight improvement in power efficiency due to the use of server grade PSU’s; however more and more miners are already using a similar configuration to optimize efficiency, and the potential high costs of these machines will likely outweigh any savings from greater efficiency versus a miner built rig with similar components.
As long as there is strong demand for mining hardware, we will continue to see the production of equipment that will improve mining hash rates, efficiency, and ease of use - it is the natural progression of technological advancement. However, if these or similar machines are mass produced and sold, the overall impact on mining should not be affected negatively. We need to consider that the addition of these mining machines may allow miners to expand their existing farms, and it could bring new miners and investors into cryptocurrencies - which are good things and needed for ongoing growth and acceptance of crypto. Additionally, coins (like PIRL) will have the ability to alter their algorithm which could make the hard coded chips useless on those coins. This may not be the most ideal solution, but is something that developers can consider if this becomes a problem in the future.
In conclusion, we welcome the addition of these new machines as we do not believe they will harm the current miners for the reasons outlined above. We believe that the introduction of these machines will allow miners to increase their hashing power, it will add new miners, and will relieve some of the GPU inventory difficulties - which are all beneficial to the PIRL mining community.
We will continue to monitor these developments and how they may affect the PIRL community.

Why is easyhash seemingly faster than nheqminer?!

Hey guys, just getting into mining. I've got a couple questions.
I've tried mining for hush which seems to be the top mine to hit, I'm using suprnova and can't get over 20sols/s.
Mind you my computer is outdated. It's got a 1231 v3 xeon chip with 4 cores which gets it 20sols/S on suprnova mining hush. When I use the command (adding -cd 0 before -u in the start.bat file) to get the gpu (gtx 730) involved I get no bump in sols, but the gpu is working it's ass off in task monitor.
I'm interested because when using easy hash app I'm getting 130 H/S on the cpu and 10 MH/S on the gpu - what is the deal!? Is it because easy hash is using Bitcoin with more people mining or what?
My question is, how can I get that kind of performance mining hush with suprnova, is it possible? Do you guys use easyhash or mine yourselves. Do you use nheqminer like I do? What's the best thing to do with my setup?
Please let me know. I'm based in New Zealand, does this make any difference? Any feedback welcome!

I am monitoring keyword Potcoin on social media and this morning i found this on CryptoCurrency - it's two day old post. I am Potcoin investor & these kind of talks is worrying me. Some one please calm me down.
Let's pick on Potcoin then. With Potcoin having Scrypt 5,100 Mh/s (per http://www.coinwarz.com/network-hashrate-charts/potcoin-network-hashrate-chart ) of mining capacity means only about $2M worth of GPU-based Scrypt mining hardware needs to be directed to a private fork of the Potcoin blockchain. Paying GPU miners for two hours of Scrypt 5,100 Mh/s is all that is needed to start a private fork, transfer Potcoins to those altcoin exchanges that it trades at, convert those altcoins to bitcoins and withdraw, and then finally broadcast the private fork. Minutes later, Cryptsy, Mintpal, SwissCEX will have seen withdrawals of maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Bitcoins but then the Potcoins that bought those bitcoins will be "gone" (having been double spent) now as well. If proper precautions were taken there would be no way to identify the attacker. [Edit: Potcoin's total capacity has dropped by half since this paragraph was first written, ... making an attack even easier and less costly.]

Your looking at a complete scrypt mining rig which mines or creates altcoins. This mining rig will create cryptocurrency such as Litecoin, Dogecoin, and more.

It is also setup to automatically reboot and start mining on it's own in case of a power outage. I can also disable this feature as that is what I prefer to do. I like manually starting my rig once a week to make sure things are running flawless.
These cards have all been undervolted, overclocked, and set up to be the most efficient and fast at what they do. Stability is key with mining cryptocurrency and I can proudly say this 2.6 MH/s mining rig has run a week at a time before I manually restart it to dust it. You can choose to let it mine tirelessly for as long as you want but I recommend dusting it often. I'm sure this baby can mine for months without being touched.

I want to throw in a newbish disclaimer. I must impress upon you the fact that this is a mining rig running Linux. If you're not good with computers then mining might not be for you. I don't care if you've upgraded your own RAM or hard drive one time, that means nothing. You need to be proficient with computers to own a mining rig running Linux. Most of the dirty work is done with this rig. It's been running SMOOTH for months now.
I'll ship it to where you can plug it in and it will automatically turn on and start mining in Linux. It will also have Windows installed, but you'll have to do a little legwork getting the drivers installed to run all 7 video cards- I wasn't interested in Windows mining so I didn't bother getting the 7th going- I got 6 video cards mining in Windows. The drivers have come out to make all 7 work but like I said- Linux mining works fine for me.
As with any rig, we're pushing these cards to the limit. You'll have to check on the rig periodically to make sure cgminer is not reporting any SICK/DEAD cards. That's normal, as with any mining rig the cards can hang or overheat and protect themselves by shutting off. You'd still be mining on all the other cards, only that one card drops offline. All mining rigs do this when you're pushing max hashrate.
I like to use the Belkin WeMo to remotely monitor my wattage, if it drops below a threshold I know I've got a dropped card and I can reset the rig remotely, it automatically boots back up and starts mining again. There's other options like CGwatcher that are pretty slick, but I've found what works for me and I'll stick to it.
It can be run fairly quiet. I ran it with no external cooling fans for a while successfully at about 3.2MH/s. I since threw some fans back on it since I don't like keeping the AC on all day and its warming up outside. Fans are included.
I offer support. I want to see my creation keep digging for a long time, that said I'll support you in getting it started back up in its new home. Check my Reddit threads for references, I know damned well what I'm talking about and I'll see to it that you get up and running.
I'm not accepting returns on this rig. Its sold as-is. Because these are sensitive electronic components, I can't be responsible for your damaging it. Its a tough well built rig, I assure you. It will work 100% when I shut it down, it should work 100% when you receive it.

7 GPU mining rig in a custom aluminum structure that I built. Pushes as much as 3.4MH/s but I'll ship it at about 3+MH/s to give you something reliable to start on.
I URGE you to read my Reddit threads and dig into the comments for a great deal of information about this rig. You may see me mentioning a Semphron 145 processor- that thing was terrible and made the rig unstable so I upgraded it to a AMD FX-6300 6-core 3.5GHz processor and the now rig screams.
